Welcome

Hello, and welcome to my website. The process of finding a psychotherapist can sometimes be a daunting task. The purpose of this website is to provide a prospective patient a sense of the way I work as well as my areas of clinical focus. (I use the word patient instead of client as I believe that patient is more indicative of psychotherapy as a healing endeavor.)

I have over 25 years experience in the field of psychology. In the consultation room, I find that cultivating a warm, friendly, compassionate stance allows the patient to move more readily in the direction towards healing and the resolution of problems and difficulties. The myriad influences that inform my clinical attitudes toward psychotherapy include:

  • contemporary psychoanalytic, Jungian, client-centered, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to clinical work

  • exploration of challenges that arise developmentally and learning to resolve and/or live with their after-effects

  • honoring the fluidity of gender and sexual identities in subjective experience

  • working with addictive processes in their various manifestations

  • the neurophysiology of the brain and its effects upon subjective experience

  • the relevance of postmodern critiques to clinical approaches in psychotherapy

  • psychotherapy grounded in feminist principles

  • Buddhist approaches to psychological, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being

  • contributions from various mystical/spiritual/religious traditions as they speak to conditions of being human as well as phenomena of the seen and unseen

  • advanced training in Somatic Experiencing technique in the treatment of trauma and its sequelae (as developed by Peter Levine)

  • advanced clinical training in Control Mastery Theory at the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group
